Hello, and welcome to Concealed Carry Illinois. My name is Dan Brewster and I am an NRA Certified Pistol instructor. I also have Rifle instructor certification, as well as current Range Safety Officer credentials. I am a lifelong shooter and veteran, serving in both the 172nd Light Infantry Brigade (Alaska) and the 101st Airborne. I initially became interested in becoming a certified instructor due to my involvement with the Boy Scouts. I serve in a number of roles in the Three Fires Council (Fox Valley area), one of which is as a Merit Badge counselor for the Rifle Merit Badge. I recently participated in the Boy Scout National Jamboree in West Virginia and there we introduced 15,000+ Scouts from around the world to the shooting sports.
As a Illinois State Certified Firearms Instructor, I offer courses that will help prepare you for the Illinois Concealed Carry certification. I typically offer the 16-hour course across two days – on Day 1 I teach the NRA Basic Pistol course and on Day 2 I teach the Illinois-specific material, to include a shooting session. Successful completion of this two-day course will qualify you for the Illinois Concealed Carry license.
The recently passed carry law in Illinois will require applicants to have the following training:
An applicant for a new license shall provide proof of completion of a firearms training course or combination of courses approved by the Department of at least 16 hours, which includes range qualification time under subsection C of this Section, that covers the following:
(1) firearms safety
(2) the basic principles of marksmanship;
(3) care, cleaning, loading, and unloading of a concealable firearm;
(4) all applicable State and federal laws relating to the ownership, storage, carry, and transportation of a firearm; and
(5) instruction on the appropriate and lawful interaction with law enforcement while transporting or carrying a concealed firearm
My goal is to offer the required training in a fun, informative, and safe environment. I use the latest courseware by both the National Rifle Association and courseware that has been developed and approved by the State of Illinois for the Illinois portion of the class. I use a variety of training tools, including “Blue Guns” and SIRT (Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger) Training Pistols. These laser training tools will help you to improve upon the fundamentals of pistol shooting in a safe and fun environment.
Please see the Course Schedule link above for information on upcoming classes.
